I am humbled and excited to begin my term as President of IIDA Mid America Chapter. We continue to build on our past successes, one of which was being awarded 2016 Small Chapter of the Year at the IIDA Annual Meeting while continuing to look to the future to elevate our members and build strong relationships with our sponsors.
Having been absent from IIDA for a period of time while I navigated the waters of being a mom, I would like to thank the great chain of leadership who has done so much for this chapter, our affectionately called “Council of Elders” who continue to be great examples for me and our design community.
This year marked the start of a new course for our chapter events. We bid farewell to Color + Couture last year – and what a party it was! As a board we determined it was important to continue to celebrate our achievements as a chapter so we made the decision to make our MADA and MADA Elevate our focus. MADA honors the projects we pour our hearts and souls into and MADA Elevate honors the designers, sponsors, dealers, and clients who exude passion and support for the design industry.
In addition to continuing to offer quality events for our members, we are also working tirelessly to increase the value of IIDA membership as a whole. Our Leading the Way Mentorship Program, NCIDQ Study Sessions, and CEU offerings are great examples of how we as a Chapter strive to better our members and our profession.
Thank you to all of our sponsors, industry partners, volunteers, and most importantly, our members. Without all of you, none of this award winning greatness would be possible. For me, IIDA is not only a great network of design professionals, but also a truly enriching organization to be a part of both personally and professionally. Please feel free to reach out to any one of us on the board for more on how to get involved and we look forward to seeing you at the next event!

The Kansas City City Center is a group of enthusiastic and generous members who make IIDA a success by planning, attending and participating in monthly and annual programs. From educational opportunities and networking events to festive gatherings and opportunities to showcase their talent, it is the objective of the KC City Center to provide value to the members we serve throughout the course of every year.
Kansas City strives to support the Interior Design profession by providing events catered to every point in the lifecycle of a design career, from students to experienced professionals. Serving as both an educational tool for designers and a contribution to professional members’ status, KC offers CEU lectures throughout the year. We also provide study sessions twice a year reviewing all sections of the exam to support designers seeking certification via the NCIDQ. And if you’re a student looking forward to a future in Interior Design, Kansas City hosts ‘Portfolios + Professionals’, an event giving students a forum to discuss the dynamics of the design world with experienced professionals from various facets of design as well as time to receive feedback on their portfolios before heading out for the interview process.
Kansas City also offers a plethora of networking and design opportunities by featuring project tours throughout the year, a membership drive in the form of trivia night, an inter-design happy hour, a spring 5k run, and a summertime tailgate. Our largest event, Color + Couture, brings together designers and manufacturers to showcase their talents and products by creating something beautiful, creative, artistic, awe-inspiring… and then model for all to see! Color + Couture is a fabulous fall fashion show that allows teams to try their hand at designing and creating wearable masterpieces, which are showcased on models who strut the creations down a runway. In 2013 we had 25 teams and nearly 800 attendees!
The Kansas City City Center’s goal, quite simply, is to support the vision for the future of IIDA and create a significant presence in the Design community by supporting our members and their needs. We can’t hardly wait to see where that takes us over the course of the next few years… and would love to have you join us!
In 2012, IIDA Mid America’s St. Louis City Center spun off into a new Chapter of their own separate from the Mid America Chapter. You can find more information on their website or contact Chapter President Larry Richie, firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Wichita City Center consists of a close-knit community of designers and representatives in and around the Wichita area, focusing on volunteering, developing programs, expanding networking opportunities and upholding the high standard for IIDA membership. Offering a wide variety of programs, from our annual Superhero 5k to tours of exciting local projects, there are multiple opportunities to enrich the design culture with the Wichita community.
Our focus is on growing membership involvement in Wichita, utilizing one another’s talents and resources, developing valuable program opportunities and contributing to worthy causes in the Wichita community. Our programs cover topics such as sound masking, lighting design, sustainability, color trends, workplace design and ergonomics. The Wichita City Center enjoys featuring local design work by organizing tours of new and innovative spaces that elevate the standards of the design profession.
While providing a strong program offering is vital to educating the design industry, we incorporate multiple networking opportunities and social events throughout the year. Embrace your inner socialite at our annual Membership Drive happy hours, Garden Parties, Casino Night, our exclusive Member’s Only event, and our Tacky Sweater Design Crawl! We strive to enhance your IIDA experience with entertaining and engaging opportunities! Giving back to the community is a task we highly value, accomplishing this through our annual Superhero 5K. Last year we were able to give a sizeable donation to a local charitable organization!
The Wichita City Center has made a great impact in the design industry to this day. We hope to continue to grow, build our presence in the Wichita community, provide our members with resources and knowledge, and advance the vision and mission of the International Interior Design Association.
