Chapter Leadership
message from the president
As we enter a new year, I want to take a moment to share my gratitude for our executive board members, our committee members, and our sponsors. Your gifts of time, talent, and sponsorship are essential to accomplishing our goals here in the IIDA Mid-America Chapter. We are fortunate to have a thoughtful community that is focused on providing the best programming and resources for our interior design community.
Throughout my time as president-elect and now as president, I see an interior design community that is striving to elevate our profession. Firm leaders are interested in working together to find solutions to shared challenges, and they want to understand the perspective of emerging professionals. IIDA members want to prioritize connecting with industry colleagues, advancing advocacy, and increased and diverse learning opportunities.
We are thrilled to share that in 2024, we intend to continue to provide quality programming at days and times that work best for most. We know your time is limited but connecting with colleagues is invaluable. We will be expanding our Sites & Sips project tour program to occur at a regular cadence, with free admission to members. We will be putting a special emphasis on our advocacy efforts this year, as we have prepared Missouri state draft legislation for sign and seal privileges, to accompany the Title Act that we already have in place. We anticipate success in this area, which will help us further define our roles and scope in our field of expertise. We are looking forward to connecting with our community through our outreach activities, and in our regional interior design campuses. Students in the Mid-America design community will know that Kansas City and Wichita are excellent places to grow a career.
We are looking forward to an enriching and fun 2024, and we hope you will join us in creating meaningful and enlightening programming for the Mid-America interior design community. Reach out to any of our board members for more information on ways to get involved – we’re glad to have you!
All the best,
Laura Burkhalter, IIDA Mid-America President
